A Performance Assessment of NASA's Heliophysics Program By Committee on Heliophysics Performance Assessment, National Research Council
Publisher: National Academies Press 2009-04-01 | 78 Pages | ISBN: 0309136563 | PDF | 1 MB
Since the 1990s, the pace of discoveries in the field of solar and space physics has accelerated, due largely to investments in NASA's fleet of Heliophysics Great Observatory spacecraft. These allow researchers to investigate the connections between events in the Sun and in the space environment by combining multiple viewpoints.
Recognizing the importance of observations of the Sun-to-Earth system, the National Research Council presented a ten-year study solar and space physics in 2003, laying the integrated research strategy. This strategy provided a prioritized list of flight missions, as well as theory and modeling programs that would advance the relevant physical theories, models incorporate theories describing a system of interactions between the sun and the environment space, obtaining data on the system, and analyze and test the adequacy of theories and models.
